How often do we get caught up in life trying to do too much? So many of us want to be able to do everything, even when our skills and time do not allow for it. How much better would things go by knowing what we are capable of, and when to let someone else help out? By knowing yourself, you can improve the workings of the activities around you. By recognizing what those around you are capable of, and allowing them to help, you do a service to yourself, and bring purpose and joy to them.
Reflect on these questions as you read the following affirmation. Take the time to reflect on these thoughts, and make changes in your life that you feel will help you.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. Have I learned to say “no” when people request too much of me?
2. What happens to me when I am stretched too far?
3. Do I set myself up for success by accurately scheduling my time?
I accept that I can only accomplish so much and I’m all right with that.
I release the notion that I can always accomplish more if only I try harder. I understand I have limits since, of course, I am only human. I leave superhero endeavours for the superheroes and take pleasure in accomplishing what I can without placing unneccessary stress on myself.
I make an effort to acknowledge my limits and stay within them. There’s nothing wrong with expanding my limits in some places, however continually attempting to work past them just sets me up for disappointment. When I remain within my limits, I choose success.
Learning to keep within my limits is just like exercising. If I push my muscles past their capabilities, I cause injury, which can set me back even further than when I began. Even so, I’m able to stretch them slowly and gradually.
In the same way, I can challenge myself to try new things, provided I attentively plan my time and efforts according to what I know I can do. If someone requests that I do something I don’t possess the time or abilities for, I confidently say “no”. This is certainly much better than misleading them today and disappointing them tomorrow.
I can accomplish much more simply by purposefully remaining within my limits. Planning my activities around my present abilities and skills enables me to devote my time undertaking what I know I can do. I avoid wasting my time and energy with the impossible.
Today, I choose to acknowledge my limits and direct my energy toward performing well within my limits. In this way, I am a success!
